Kennewick Man -- AIM Support Group of Ohio and Northern KY

Friends,

We received the following comments on the Kennewick Man program on 60 Minutes that aired September 15. Please go to cbsnews.com/stories/1998/07/08/60minutes/main13504.shtml, go to the bottom of the page, and click on "Feedback" to write a message to 60 Minutes about its biased coverage of the issue.

P.S. Cincinnati locals: the Information/Resource Co-Directors taped the program and will have it to show at our next meeting, October 5.

P.S.S. Apparently transcripts of the show are available for $9 from:
Burrelles Transcripts
P.O. Box 7
Livingston, NJ 07039

if anyone is interested.

Click on the URL above for videotapes. We did not ask the cost of those.

I watched a portion of 60 mintues last night and was very upset with what appeared to me to be support by the interviewer of the archologist white/euro/americans sense of out rage that he could not impose their cultural ideas on and a native American nation, and was upset that Native American beliefs were being sustainted over white, called it forcing their culture on the US. I tink Aim needs to review that film and demand for equal time on 60 mintues and make the point that those people are a nation and have the right to determine what is ok and not in their nation. Casino was used as a emotional response word to get white support, at least in my way of thinking. Also that history that is oral has over and over been found to be as accurate as written history, and that whites don't have the right to demand their so called scientific methods to be the only truth system about early life here. Indidans were accused of fearing to loose their casino if white digs showed in white concept that they had not lived there for 500 years as climed. This is biased white social arrogant put down of indians. Pilgrim plantation had to change much of their buildings here after a dig because white history was wrong. Whites do not have a history of oral history and there fore believe only written history is accurate. Native peoples history must be respected by white/euro/americans.
